Touching Lives by The Warmth of One Blanket At A Time
Christmas Encouragement
I have an amazing neighbor who saw a need and set out to fill it with one blanket at a time. She recognized there were Veterans at our local VA hospital both patients and homeless who were lonely and didn’t have any family or friends who cared for them.
Her quest began with crocheting one blanket, two blankets, twenty blankets and more. By the time she made her second delivery she had a new her goal and it was going to be a lofty one. She was going to make and deliver 100 blankets by Christmas with the hopes that every blanket made would touch the hearts and lives of every Veteran who received one.
The receipients remain unknown to her, but she is ok with this because she knows every color chosen and every stitch made was orchestrated by God’s guidance. She was willing to be His hands and feet to touch the lives of 100 strangers who served our Country at one time or another. Only does He know who is to receive each and every one of these blankets and whose lives will be touched forever by them.
What is your talent? How can you touch someone’s life this Christmas? Think about how you can be God’s hands and feet this Christmas season and touch the life of one or more people.
If you need some ideas to get your quest jump started here are a few suggestions…
- Children and chidren’s Hospital
- Cancer wings at local hospitals
- Favorite doctors, teachers, EMS (emergency medical service people)
- Police officers and their precincts
- Favoite local library
- Shut in elderly people in you neighborhood or community
- Local homeless shelters
- Local pregnant shelters
- Womens shelters
- Union missions
- Salvation armies
- Pet shelters
- Fire and Rescue workers
Let God guide you to where He needs you. Lastly remember this verse as you begin your Christmas quest,
“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”
Matthew 25:40 NKJV
It’s not only Christmas that I do this, but Christmas is a really important time to reminisce with my dementia peeps because they remember so well around this time of year. I have lots of goodies that prompt them. Together we fill the room with joy in their worlds. When asked what the season means to them, they can answer in the most sensical ways imaginable. Oh…don’t forget the music!
