Friendships are amazing treasures from God when you least expect it.
This past week I have learned to treasure the ones I have because they walked into my life during times of our greatest darkness. They have proven their loyalty over and over again because the road they have walked has not been an easy one. It has been a journey wrought with discouragement, frustration, pain, and sickness, but they always find a way to bring a smile to my face, sometimes makes me laugh, and always makes the day seem a little brighter again.
I have had many friendships over the years, but these I have now are different. It is hard to explain why I feel they are different, because when you think about friendships you tend to think they are all the same. A friend is a friend, is a friend, but they are not. Each friendship offers a separate and unique relationship. Only through examining the ones you have in your own life will you truly know what I mean.
Maybe this was why I went through a dry spell of not having friendships when we first moved here. I had always been blessed my whole life until we moved here and they all dissolved and went away.
It wasn’t until years later that I learned to treasure and value the people who have chosen to be in my life today. It isn’t because of circumstances, jobs, or reasons that put them there, but simply because they wanted to be. Their friendship is authentic and real. They have proven to be loyal because they have stood by my side during some of my darkest hours when most people choose to run the other way.
My friend, if you have a friendship like this, do not take it for granted. Cherish each person as a unique individual, because they are. Love them and give them back the same friendship they give you. It is the mutual relationship that allows them to flourish and blossom. Through your investment, the dividends will be more than you can imagine.
